Lozene M. Aarstad, 90, formally of rural Hiawatha, KS, passed away Monday, November 20, 2017, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, KS. Lozene was born October 3, 1927 in Frankfort, KS, the daughter of Hugh Michael and Verda Wilson Massey. Lozene graduated from Powhattan High School in 1945. On October 30, 1949, she married Lars L. Aarstad, at Zion Lutheran Church in Everest, Ks. Lars and Lozene lived on their farm, in rural Hiawatha, for over 60 years, where they raised their 3 sons, Michael, Wayne and Bruce. Lozene enjoyed being a farm wife, providing delicious meals to family and farm help. She also worked a few years for Green Thumb, Inc., Lars and Lozene enjoyed traveling, when time allowed, and especially enjoyed their 4 trips to Lars' homeland, Norway. One of the greatest joys in Lozene's life were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was also an avid reader. In December 2012, due to health issues, Lars and Lozene moved to the Apostolic Home, where Lars passed away on April 24, 2014. Lozene was a member of the Everest Zion Lutheran Church. Survivors include son, Michael (Dixie) of Andover, KS; six grandchildren, Richmond Aarstad of Meriden, Amy Hankins of Andover, Kari Torrez (Will), of Topeka; Matt Aarstad (McKenzie), of Wichita; Justin Aarstad and Mindy (Brandin) Erickson, both of St. Joseph, MO.; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Maryln Wenger of Powhattan, KS. Besides Lars, Lozene was preceded in death by sons, Wayne and Bruce, and granddaughter, Krystal Aarstad; brother, Floyd Massey and sister, Karen Madsen. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, November 24, 2017 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas where the family will greet friends from 1:00 to 2:00. Burial will be at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery north of Everest, Kansas.
