Gladys was born on June 16, 1952 in Caswell County, Yanceyville, North Carolina. Gladys was the youngest of eleven children born to the late Clayton Lincoln Miles Sr. and Lila Belle Love Miles. Gladys was a 1971 graduate of Bartlett Yancey High School, at an early age she became a member of Providence Baptist Church in Yanceyville, N.C., and later became a member of Faith, Love, and Hope Christian Church in Burlington, N.C. On July, 19, 2017, she exchanged her earthly life for eternal life. She was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Earl Randolph Abbott and through this union they were blessed with two beautiful daughters. In addition to her children, she also leaves to cherish her memory, one granddaughter; one god daughter; one brother, two sisters, and hosts of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Gladys was a devoted employee at MeadWestvaco Corporation, of Mebane N.C. Gladys was preceded in death by five brothers, Jaycee Miles, Lee Otis Miles, Fitzgerald Miles, James Miles, Houston Miles and Clayton Lincoln Miles; three sisters, Claudia Miles and Virginia Totten of Yanceyville N.C., and Catherine Poteat of Pleasant Grove, N.C.
