GREAT FALLS — Roy Max Aafedt, 83, of Great Falls, passed away at home Sunday evening, November 12, 2017.
He was born in Great Falls, Montana on April 22, 1934 to Emma and Ole Aafedt. He had seven siblings.
Roy attended local elementary schools and Great Falls High School. His military service included serving in the United States Naval Reserve for three years followed by serving in the Army Signal Corps. His basic training was at Fort Ord, California and he went on to Camp Gordon, Georgia. He was a specialist first class and spent time in Korea, being honorably discharged from Fort Lewis, Washington in 1957. After his military service, he worked at Boeing as an aircraft mechanic. He also attended Northern Montana College in Havre, Montana.
Donna Dunnigan Thomas and Roy were married April 16, 1965 in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. He cherished their two boys.
Roy worked in car retail sales and was a co-owner with Modern Homes in Great Falls, as well as owning his own Aafedt Storage Center. He sold insurance for Met Life, real estate for the Cogswell Agency and worked for Nordak. His favorite job was serving as Cascade County Commissioner from 1992-1998, a job he truly loved.
He was a member of BPOE, Pachyderm, Optimist Club, Audubon Society, First Presbyterian Church and sat on the golf advisory board. He also enjoyed a dinner club with friends for 41 years. Roy was always happy to fix things. He enjoyed his golf game and the men in the Senior League.
Roy had lately been stricken with Parkinson's disease. He has been cremated and his ashes will be placed at the Columbarium at the First Presbyterian Church in Great Falls.
He is survived by his wife, Donna, of 52 years, two sons, two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Emma and Ole and all of his siblings.
