Dewey C. Surdez, son of Joseph and Augusta Surdez was born on December 4, 1898 at Neuchatel, Kansas. He was united in the Congregational Church at Neuchatel in 1915. After a long illness he passed away at his home in Phoenix, Arizona on September 7, 1950, at the age of 51 years, 9 months and 3 days.
He attended Onaga High School and the Northwest Missouri State Teachers College at Maryville, Mo. He severed in World War I.
He was married to Miss Bernus Johnson on February 26, 1919, at St. Joseph, Mo. To this union were born two daughters, Mrs. Gwendolyn E. Enochs of St. Joseph, Mo., and Mrs. Darlene J. Bennett of Phoenix, Ariz.
He was superintendent of the Bishop Furniture Corp. of North Kansas City, Mo., for 14 years, where he made his home.
Besides his wife and daughters, he is survived by one granddaughter, Gloria Enochs, of St. Joseph, Mo.; two sons-in-law, Victor M. Enoch of St. Joseph, Mo., and Jim C. Bennett of Phoenix, Ariz.; four brothers, Floyd of Sioux City, S. Dak., Lester of Spearfish, So. Dak. Wilbur of Onaga and Tell of Kansas City, Mo.; one sister, Mrs. Stella Abbott, who preceded him in death also many other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were conducted at the Neuchatel church on Monday morning at 10:30, in charge of Rev. Earl Caryl. Burial was in the Neuchatel cemetery.
Those from out of town attending the funeral service were: Mr. and Mrs. Bill Edwards, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Kimberlin and Alva Lilly, of Kansas City, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Rex Johnson of Lawrence; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Johnson and Ralph Johnson of Marian; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Surdez of Sioux Falls, S. Dak.; Lester Surdez, Spearfish, S. Dak.; Tell Surdez Kansas City, Mo.; Albert Surdez, Nennox, So. Dak. Bob Perrrelet, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Ladner, Frankfort; Mrs. Emma Cox, Topeka.
