Funeral services for Wilhelmenia J. Abel , 101, of 281 Bridge St., Bamberg, formerly of the Bethel Community, Bamberg, will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, in Bethel United Methodist Church, Bamberg. The burial will follow in Bamberg Memory Gardens.

She died Friday at her residence.

She was born Jan. 28, 1907, to the late George W. and Rosa C. Abel in Bamberg County. She attended the public schools of Bamberg County. "Mena," as she was known to her many friends, was a graduate of Claflin College, where she earned a BS degree in elementary education. Many families remember her with great fondness for her many years of dedication to the Bamberg County school system. Joining Bethel United Methodist Church at an early age, she was a member of the church choir, Methodist Women's Missionary Society, the Bamberg Co-Op and was an active member in Claflin College's alumni functions and services to the community.

Surviving two brothers, Martin L. Abel of Bamberg and John W. Abel of Walterboro; a numerous number of nieces and nephews.

The family will be greeting friends in the fellowship hall of the church after the burial.

Friends may also call at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Abel of Bethel Community.

Carroll Mortuary of Bamberg will be in charge of the services.
