Ethel Yantes Aamot, 89, Salina, Kansas and formerly of Minot, North Dakota, passed away on Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, at Salina Regional Hospital.

Ethel Kathleen was born June 16, 1928, to Lloyd & Pauline (Bishop) Meyers of Agate, ND, and attended Bisbee schools. She married Samuel F. Yantes from Union, Iowa, in a Military wedding at Camp Clairbourne, LA, as Sam served in France during WWII.

They began their life together on a farm near Bisbee, then moved to Langdon in 1960 where they owned and operated Yantes Case Implement Company. Ethel excelled as a mother and Christian role model for her seven children. Later, Ethel secured a clerical typist position at the Selective Service Office.

In 1967, the Yantes family sold the implement and moved to Minot, ND. Both Ethel & Sam were very active in the Moose Lodge, where she was accountant. A Women of the Moose member, Ethel served as Jr. & Sr. Regents, Jr. Graduate Regent, and earned a College of Regents Degree (1969). In 1971, she was appointed to serve the Dakotas as Deputy Grand Regent. In 1980, Ethel was the second person from ND to ever be appointed to the International Grand Council. She traveled extensively for the International Office of the Moose. In 1990, Mrs. Yantes was appointed Mooseheart Admissions Rep for the Dakotas and continued in that capacity for 15 years before retiring (2009). In 1995, Sam passed away; in 2000, Ethel married Orvin Aamot of Minot, who passed away in 2014.

Ethel’s volunteer service included 21 years as Hospital Volunteer for St. Joseph & Trinity Hospitals. She served as Eagles Auxiliary President, 4 years as Dakota Musician, was active in Anna Circle at Christ Lutheran Church, the Secretaries of America, and the Trinity Auxiliary. She was adept at writing and directing skits for groups. Ethel had a zest for life and energized those around her.

Ethel’s love was her family and she treasured the countless family get-togethers. Gathering around the piano to sing hymns became a beloved ritual, as did gameplay and lots of hugs!

Survivors include sons, Kenneth of Devils Lake, ND, Dean (Bonnie) of Grafton, ND, and Lloyd (Deb) of Minot; daughters, Jane Botz (Brad), Jean Sedo (Phil),Salina, KS, Faye Primeau (Jon) and Virginia Yantes, both of Minot, 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.

Ethel was preceded in death by husbands Sam Yantes and Orvin Aamot, daughter-in-laws Darleen and Nela and a grandson, Shannon Botz.
