Mary attended school at the Mission in Hays, Montana and Flandreau Indian School in South Dakota. She later received her G.E.D. and 2 years of college in Glendive for Early Childhood Education. She worked for Fort Peck Headstart for 15 years. In December 13, 1950, she met and married Wilbert Jackson. To this union they had 8 children. He passed away in 1976. She later met and married August “Gus” Hayes until his passing in 1994. She was a very beautiful and loving mother to many children on the Fort Peck Reservation. She was always there to lend a hand to anyone no matter who they were. She was known as “Ma Hayes” and too many as “Grama Mary.” Mom was a devoted Catholic all her life and recently gave her heart and life to the Lord on January 7, 2018.
Mom is survived by her two daughters, her brother, two adopted sisters any nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren.
Mom is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Mary (Fox) Brockie, her brothers, Joseph “JoeJoe”, Morris “Brickie”, James “Skunk”, Georgie and Teddy Brockie. Her sisters Teresa Nellie, Ella Aragon, Catherine, Agnes “Aggie” Adams, Frances “Frosty” Brown, Cecilia Marie, Helen Ruth, Ann Helgeson and two adopted sisters Rose Connor and Henrietta Cochran. Her daughter Rosalyn “Toni” Jackson, sons Wilbert, Clarence “Indian”, Stonewall, Emerson, and James Jackson. Her grandchildren Rebecca and Robert Archdale and Jordie Jackson.
