Marlene Kaye Brookfield, daughter of Melvin and Vivian Johnson Aakhus, was born December 3, 1941, in Fosston, MN. Her childhood years were spent in the Everly area where she received her early education. After graduating from Everly High School, she attended Stewarts College of Cosmetology.
Marlene married Richard Brookfield on June 23, 1961, in Everly. Throughout their marriage they have made their home in the Sutherland community, where for 15 years Marlene owned and operated a beauty shop. For the past 10 years she has worked at Wilson's Food in Cherokee.
Marlene had been baptized into the Lutheran Faith on October 24, 1955, at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly, where she was confirmed on October 30, 1955. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland, where she served as a Sunday School teacher. Her church and her family were an important part of her life.
Marlene is survived by her husband, Dick; two daughters, Dawn Jensen and her husband James and Nicole Brookfield, all of Sutherland; two grandchildren, Jessica and Lindsay Jensen; seven brothers and sisters: Doug Aakhus of Phoenix, AZ, Larry Aakhus and his wife Linda of Lawton, IA, Dean Aakhus and his wife Linda of Milford, Linda Nellis and her husband Dale of Sutherland, Myma Yeager and her husband Bruce of Chaska, MN, Carol Lowe of Sutherland and Holly Baysinger and her husband Denny of Chaska, MN; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a niece. Arrangements were under the direction of Warner Funeral Home, Sutherland.
