Absalom was 16 yrs old when father & family moved to South western VA & settled in Lee Co.

Reports Absalom had 11 children by S. Helvey & 7 childre n by M. Olinger. Was w/brother VIncent Jr. when he kille d the Indian Benge; Absalom distinguished himself as fron tier fighter & new territory defender.

Last will;
Text: In the name of God Amen. I, Absalom Hobbs of Lee County and State of Virginia, being weakly in Body but of perfect mind and memory calling to mind the mortality of the body knowing that this is once appointed for all men to die, do make and constitute this my last will and testament and first of all, I bequeath my soul to God who gave it and my body to be buried at the discretion of my heirs with decent christian burial after all my just debts and funeral expenses are paid I dispose of all my worldly estate that it has pleased God to help me with in the manner and form following:
Item the first, I consider my first heirs to have received their full share of the estate according to what I hold at this time.
Item the 2nd, what I have at this time I leave with my beloved wife Polly to raise and school my children with I want my children sufficiently schooled and the balance to her at her discretion during her natural life or widowhood until the last heirs as they become of age and then to receive their part of property according to the standing of the estate at this time.
Item 3, all my lands, I bequeath to my six youngest sons and it is to be valued and divided equally according to quantity and quality.
Item the 4, out of none of that land my daughter peggy ann the boys are to pay her equal part according to the valuation of the land in property.
Given under my hand and seal this 5th day of June 1840.

These are taken as family history and part of dedication Sept 12 2009 of Hobbs Cemetery. He is recorded here although he appears to be buried alone across the river at an area of the house he lived in.
