Wife of Gustave "Harry" Bergquist. Mother of Cynthia (James) Krainc and David Bergquist. Grandmother of Laura and Alan, Alexander and Reid. Sister of Gertrude (Ivar) Isaacson, Harold and Arnold Alenius.
Daughter of Ulricka and William Alenius. A violin maker, who with his children where known as the Alenius String Ensemble, and toured the Midwest for many years. Elsie played violin, which was made for her by her father. After she graduated from the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago, she taught music and violin in Elmwood Park Elementary schools, the Avery Coonley School and gave private lessons as well. Elsie was a long-time member of the West Suburban Symphony Orchestra. She was the first Concertmaster of the Hinsdale Chamber Orchestra and the Hinsdale Opera. She was also, multiple times, president of the Hinsdale Music Club.
