Edward & Anna Zobac died in the Eastland Disaster* on July 24, 1915. Violet (22 months) and her brother Harold (5 months) were raised by their Uncle Joseph and Aunt Josephine Zobac.
* On July 24, 1915 the SS Eastland had taken on more than 2,500 passengers for an excursion trip across Lake Michigan. They were employees of the Western Electric Company, their family members and guests and would be attending the 5th annual employee picnic at Washington Park in Michigan City, Indiana. While still docked, the ship rolled over onto it's side throwing passengers into the Chicago River and trapping others below deck. Nearly 850 men, women, children died as a result. Several whole families were lost.
