Samuel B. Hidy Dead
Samuel Breckenridge Hidy departed this life June 6, 1922. He was a son of John A. and Matilda Hidy, of Crabbottom, Va. His death was due to high blood pressure and enlargement of the heart; he passed away peacefully with a smile on his face as if death was welcomed. Sammie was a cripple and will be greatly missed in the home where he was a care most all his life. He had a good memory and was a good conversationalist; his mind reverted many times to days of long ago, and could tell of things that occurred during the Civil War and would sing the war songs to amuse the younger ones. He was very gentle and kind, portraying the Christ like spirit of which he became the possessor some 25 years ago. His favor ate hymn was Jesus Wash Me in Thy Blood. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Thomas. Interment at the Hidy cemetery. The body was held until the third day for the arrival of his niece, Mrs. William Berlin Simmons, of Jane Lew, W. Va. The other nieces of the immediate family were Mrs. Edna Wimer, Miss Ocie Hidy and nephew, James Hidy, who were in New York state and could not be present at the funeral. His niece, Mrs. Charles Alexander, of McDowell visited him a few days before his death, but was unable to attend the burial. The nieces of other families with the exception of Mrs. Carrie Slaven were in distant states. Sammie had five brothers and four sisters. Brothers names: William Life, a veteran of the civil war. Jacob Hull of Portland Oregon, John, Randolph, of Oklahoma, Henry Clay of Illinois, James Buchannon, who is at the old home place in Crabbottom, the place of birth and death of the deceased brother. Sisters: Katherine, wife of Henry Lantz, of Missouri; Caroline Virginia, wife of Joseph Gray, Illinois; Sally, wife of John Sever, of Columbus, Ohio; Mary J. wife of Dr. J. E. Arbogast, of Crabbottom. The mother of this family was a Miss Penegar, of Franklin, W. Va., who will be remembered by many.
