Celar Sam Gebo, was 18 years of age when the U.S. entered World War I in April 1917, and he enlisted in the U.S. Army the following year. He began his military service at the recruit depot at Ft. Logan, Colorado, on 16 July 1918. He was promoted to Private 1st Class on 22 November 1918 and was assigned to an army unit stationed at Camp Stanley, Texas. While serving there he became a victim of the 1918 influenza epidemic or "Spanish Flu" pandemic. He died 8 December 1918 at Camp Stanley on the nothwest outskirts of San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas.
