Services for Mearl Gregory, 92, of Stonewall are at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Stonewall, Oklahoma, Rev. Richard Dickerson will officiate. Burial will follow at the Highland Cemetery, Stonewall. Visitation for family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 29 at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mr. Gregory passed away Saturday, May 26, 2018 at his home. Mearl was born August 1, 1925 at Tupelo, Oklahoma to Roy and Syrena Landis Gregory.
Mearl married Geneva E. Cogburn on October 2, 1943. Geneva passed away February 23, 2014. Mearl and Geneva had celebrated 70 years together. Mearl was a member of the First Baptist Church in Stonewall. He retired from Brockway Glass after more than 30 years. Mearl always had a smile on his face. Mearl was always building or climbing on something. He had the nickname “Squirrel.” He and Geneva vacationed in their motor home after his retirement, traveling across the United States. A favorite pastime was fishing in his pond and sitting on the dock. He and Geneva loved to square dance and were members of the Hereford Whirlers in Ada. Mearl loved to go to Mary’s Music Barn and didn’t want to miss a show.
Mearl was preceded in death by his wife, parents; a son, Gene Gregory, brothers, Robert L. Gregory, Sr., R. C. Gregory, a sister, Chloe Abbott, daughter-in-law, Sherri and great-grandson, Josh.
Survivors include his children, Archie Gregory, Don Gregory (Myra), Ron Gregory (Terri), Dale Gregory (Christy), a grandson he and Geneva raised and Mary Southerland (Elvin); Grandchildren: Archie Lee Gregory, Jr., James Gregory, Christy Blackburn, Kim Cosby, Nick Gregory, Shelly Bettes, Tina Gregory, Gina Trail, Krista Southerland, Kayla Southerland, Justin Southerland and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be Tim Blackburn, Nick Gregory, Dale Gregory, Heath Cosby, Cody Cosby, Logan Cosby and Quinton Gregory. Honorary Pallbearers are Larry Woods, Roland Fowler and Harold Pennington.
