Mrs. C. P. Abbott, of this community, after continued suffering for weeks, passed peacefully away on the 29th of August, 1892. She was the youngest daughter of William and Jane Denney, born in Brown county, Ohio, June 7th, 1843. She was united in marriage at 21 years of age to Mathew Van Eman. To this union was born one daughter, Electa T. In a little more than a year her companion was killed while helping to save our country's flag. After seven years she again united in marriage with C. P. Abbott; to this union were born two daughters, Ida S. and Anna L., and one son, Jesse P. She had the best of care and the most skillful treatment. Dr. Barnes, the attending physician, together with Dr. Denney, of Red Cloud, Nebraska, Dr. J. A. Rawls, of Creston, and the eminent Dr. Van Eman, of Kansas City, did all that medical skill could have done for her, while husband, children and friends, which were legion, stood ready to meet every call.
She became an earnest Christian while young, uniting with the M. E. church. After some time, her daughters joined the Congregational church, she left the church of her childhood to be with them in Christian work. She never faltered where duty led. She loved her family dearly and earnestly worked and prayed for their salvation, and we trust God has heard and answered her pleadings.
