Barbara Joan Whitehurst Allen, 85, of Hazelton Road, Gates, NC, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 3, 2018, in Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk, VA.

Mrs. Allen was born at her parent's home in Gates County on May 6, 1933, and was the daughter of the late Joseph Bonnie and Margaret Howell Whitehurst.

Retired after many years with Lipton Tea Company, she was a member of Savage's United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Garry B. Allen; and her sisters, Jakie Noll and Rachel Savage.

Surviving are her sister, Muriel Twine of Belvidere; two sons, Joseph Allen and wife, Barbara, of Gates, and Michael Allen and wife, Kim, of Gloucester, VA; three grandchildren, Joni Decosimo and husband, Jason, of Gates, David Allen and wife, Lindsey, of Williamsburg, and Noah Allen and wife, Ashley, of Prince George, VA; and six great-grandchildren, Caleb and Brayden Decosimo, and Aubrey, Savanna, Roman, and Dylan Allen.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in Savage's United Methodist Church and will be conducted by her pastor, The Rev. Casey Estler, and longtime family friend, Greg Casper. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, or in the church social hall immediately after the service on Thursday.
