The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Carlisle Funeral Home, Michigan City, with Rick Jones officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until the service Saturday.
Mr. Abbey was born May 25, 1933 in Saginaw, MI to Raymond E. and Rosemary I. (Levi) Abbey, both whom preceded him in death. In 1953, In New Buffalo, MI, he married his former wife, Norma Lee Reed.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Cheri (Alan) Johnston, Michigan City, Michael (Kimberly) Abbey, Carmel, IN, Mark (Kendra) Abbey, Paris, TX, John Abbey, Phoenix, AZ, Cathy (Jesse) Dilling and Laurie Abbey, both of Michigan City; grandchildren, Sarah Johnston (Victor) Walker, Aaron Johnston and Jennifa Johnston, all of Michigan City, Matthew (Beth) Johnston Noblesville, IN, Elizabeth (Eric) Phillips, Indianapolis, Amanda, Caitlin, Johnathon and Alexandra Abbey, Carmel, IN, Kaelee, Jon Mark, Jordon Abbey and Jacob Carriveau, Paris, TX, Katie, Jessica and Nicholas Dilling, and Victoria Myhand, all of Michigan City, great-grandchildren, Hailey Johnston and Jadah Walker, both of Michigan City; brother, Terrence (Diana) Abbey, Casa Grande, AZ; sister, Valerie Brenner (Dr. Tom) Dawson, Saginaw, MI; and long time special friend, Donna Bobit, Sun City West, AZ.
Larry graduated from high school in St. Louis, MI, and attended the University of Michigan where he was a member of the baseball team. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Detroit Tigers and University of Michigan football. He played softball on an Arizona senior team. Larry had a career in sales, coming to Michigan City in 1955 with the J.C. Penny Co. He also worked in insurance, chemical and advertising sales. He was an honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran.
