Mrs. Margaret Abbott Meredith, 82, went to be with her Lord Thursday, February 8, 2018 at her residence following a courageous battle with declining health.
Margaret was born in Guilford County, July 17, 1935, a daughter of the late Colonel E. Abbott and Nora Mabe Abbott. She worked at North State Telephone, Pilot Freight and retired from the Guilford County Schools. Margaret had an infectious smile and laugh. She loved life, people, never met a stranger, and enjoyed cooking and growing flowers. Margaret was a life-long member of Woodlawn Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. Her passion was singing with several area trios. Margaret was preceded in death by five siblings, her twin, Mildred Rae Abbott, John Wayne Abbott, Lloyd Benjamin Abbott, Reid Wakefield Abbott and Noel Johnson Abbott.
Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Robert F. Meredith; a daughter, Robbin Milliken and husband Brooks; a son, Kelly Meredith; two grandchildren, Courtney Hulin and husband Jason and Casey Carter; five great-grandchildren, Memphis Carter, Branson Hulin, Bayden Hulin, Hudson Carter, and Madisyn Carter; a sister, Lois Rice; and a brother, Gene Abbott.
A Celebration of Margaret's life will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Woodlawn Baptist Church by Rev. Josh Gentle, Rev. Pat Ray and Rev. Michael Mabe. Burial will follow in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home in High Point Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. Pallbearers for the service will be Brooks Milliken, Kelly Meredith, Casey Carter, Jason Hulin, Randy Putman and Wayne Abbott.
