Steve Christopher Abbott 69, of Cook County Illinois, was born April 1, 1948 to Jean Elizabeth Casbarro and Otha Lawrence "Larry" Abbott, Sr. He passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Kindred Hospital in Indianapolis, surrounded by those he loved. Steve enjoyed playing Euchre, Chess, Ms. Pac-Man, fishing, camping, playing guitar and spending time with his family. He enjoyed bird watching and feeding Mallard ducks. Steve was Southern Baptist. He had devoted several faithful years to the Metropolitan School District of Washington Township where he worked diligently until his early retirement due to disability.
Early in his life Steve overcame childhood sickness the doctors thought he would not survive going on to become a wrestler. Steve was known under the names "The Gypsy" and "Billy The Bird". He and his longtime friend "Coop" had gone against the likes of Andre The Giant, Macho Man Randy Savage, Jake The Snake and many others. He often liked to tell stories about what it was like to be in the ring with Andre and how large Andre's hands really were. "If that man put his hand over your face, his palm was SO big, it was like the lights in the WHOLE arena would go out", he would say. Steve also enjoyed motorcycles having been a chapter member in a local club.
He was preceded in death by his Uncle and Aunt who raised him like their own, William and Effie May (Abbott) Byrd as well as, his older brother Lawrence "Larry" Abbott, Jr. Steve is survived by his older sister Betty J. (Abbott) Hutti and husband James as well as, nephews Jimmy and Bobby. Steve's children Terry W. Abbott and wife Lori as well as, his daughter Darla A. Abbott. Steve is also survived by his grandchildren Dusty Morris, Ashley Morris and husband Nathan, Nick Morris and wife Heather, Marissa Fugate and husband Tyler, Rick Abbott, Zachary Abbott, Ashlee Williams, and Randy Hardin. Steve was blessed to have eight great grandchildren Avery, Nyla, Hannah, Savannah, Olivia, Benjamin, Braden and Ensley.
