Robert Irwin Abbay III of Walls, MS passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 9, 2018. He was born July 21, 1947 in Memphis, TN. After graduating from Tunica High School, Robert attended Mississippi State University before graduating from the University of Southern Mississippi. Post-graduation, Robert’s entire career was spent doing what he loved, farming. He used to say it wasn’t just a job, but rather a lifestyle—one that allowed him to enjoy his hobbies; hunting and fishing, tractor pulling, and cooking with his cooking team, the Cotton Pickin’ Cookers.

Throughout his life, he was active in the Boy Scouts of America and Robinsonville United Methodist Church. He served his farming community as past President of Norfolk Gin and Commissioner with the DeSoto County Soil and Water Conservation District.

Robert is survived by his sister, Jane Abbay Sullivan; three children, Rob (Leigh), Will (Lisa) and Mary Ellen (Rick); and six grandchildren, Robert Irwin Abbay V, Sarah Abbay, Emma Abbay, Van Abbay, Paul Hanna and Ellie Hanna. He was preceded in death by his mother Mary Jane Cooley Abbay and father Robert Irwin Abbay, Jr.

There will be a graveside service at 2 pm Wednesday, September 12th at Oakwood Cemetery, Tunica, MS.

Donations and memorials can be made to the Mississippi State Foundation, Inc. for the Robert I. Abbay III Memorial Fund at P.O. Box 6149, Mississippi State, MS 39762.
