Melvin Earl Abbott, of Paragould, AR, son of the late Charlie Abbott and Hollie Baird Abbott, was born Jan. 18, 1918 at Hayti, MO; and departed this life July 24, 1984 at St. Bernard's Hospital in Jonesboro, AR, at the age of 66 years. He was united in marriage Mar. 22, 1938 at Alton, MO to Essie Cotham.
He is survived by his wife, Essie Abbott, of the home, two children he raised, Michael Croy of Paragould, AR; and Marcia Mitchell of Mesquite, TX; four brothers, Clarence Abbott of Pocahontas, AR; Frank Abbott of Queen Creek, AZ; James Abbott of Paragould, AR; and Johnnie Abbott of Mineral Wells, TX; one sister, Mary Whitrock of Pocahontas, AR; and one granddaughter.
His parents, two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 27 at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel with Terry Frizzell officiating. Interment was in Jeff Cemetery under the direction of the Carter Funeral Home of Thayer, MO.
