Mr. Carmine “Pop” James Abbondanzo, 85, passed away peacefully Friday, October 26, 2018.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Saturday at 2 PM at St. Peter Catholic Church. Burial will be in Pinewood Memorial Park with military honors.
Mr. Abbondanzo was the son of Italian immigrants. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving his country for eight years. Mr. Abbondanzo was a brick mason for most of his life, retiring at age 72. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church.
Pop’s hobby in life was spending time with his family which included Ali, his dog. He loved his Giants football team and his Yankee’s baseball team. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Abbondanzo was preceded in death by his parents, several brothers and sisters, and his loving daughter, Lisa Ann Collins Weber.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Joan Abbondanzo of the home, daughters, Donna Parsons and Cathleen Munson and husband, James, all of Greenville; grandchildren, Jennifer Parsons, Stephen Parsons, Travere Parsons, Nicole Munson, Christine Weber and Logan Weber; several great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home Friday from 5 to 8 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pitt County Animal Shelter, 4550 County Home Road, Greenville, NC 27858 or the VFW Charles Gray Morgan Post #7032, P. O. Box 1162, Greenville, NC 27835.
