Genevieve Margaret Squires-Adair

A memorial service for Genevieve Margaret Squires-Adair was held Tuesday, January 26, with interment planned for the spring at the Dillon Mt. View cemetery. Squires-Adair, 87, of Helena, died January 23, 1999, at the Cooney Convalescent Home.

She was born on December 29, 1911, in Plainview, Neb. In 1918, the family moved to Butte, Mont. She graduated from high school in Butte. She received her B. A. Degree from Western Montana College. Her Master's Degree was earned at the University of Southern California with her thesis in "Air Age Education."

During World War II she served her country as a lieutenant in the W.A.A.C. at Fort Des Moines, Iowa. Following the war she returned to Butte and resumed her teaching career.

In 1950 she became deputy superintendent of schools under Mary Condon. In 1957 she married Albert Sydney Adair. She also served as chief engrossing clerk for the Montana Senate for many sessions.

Squires-Adair and her husband farmed for many years at their farm near Broadview. She traveled extensively in her later years. She was a long-time member of Soroptimist International Heritage Club of Helena. She was also a member of the Mizpah Chapter #13 O.E.S. in Dillon, Mont., and Tirzah Temple #3 Butte Daughters of the Nile.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

She is survived by her brother, Wilbert Squires and sister-in-law Hellen Squires of Helena; nephew and his wife of Fountain Valley, Calif.; niece and her husband of Salem, Ore.; two great-nephews; two great-nieces and nephew-in-law of East Helena; great-great-niece and great-great-nephew.

Memorials are suggested to an organization of the donor's choice.
