Ruth Elaine Aalseth, 88, of Lake Forest, California, died on Thursday, August 9, 2012, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Born to Frank and Lillian Rentel on August 1, 1924, on a farm near Sioux City, Iowa, Ruth had an older sister, Dorothy (De Haan) and two younger brothers, Tom and Roger. She attended Concord No. 1 School, a one-room schoolhouse, through grade eight; East Junior High School for grade nine; and completed high school at East High in Sioux City. Ruth attended Western Union College (later Westmar College) in Le Mars and attained her teaching certificate. She began teaching at Concord No. 4 School, and then taught at the same one-room schoolhouse she had attended. Her youngest brother, Roger, was one of her students.
Ruth married Kenneth Donald Aalseth in Sioux City on August 24, 1947, and then moved to Philadelphia, Penn. Later the couple moved to Downers Grove, Ill. It was there that she gave birth to her two sons. In 1956, the family moved to California where they spent the next 24 years. In 1980 Ruth and Kenneth moved to Boulder, Colorado. When diagnosed with dementia in 2001, Ruth moved to Lake Forest, California, to reside with family.
Ruth is survived by her sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. After 37 years of marriage, her husband predeceased her in 1986. She was also predeceased by her sister Dorothy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in the Memory of Ruth Aalseth to
