Leon Nye Acklen, age 85 of Brazil, Indiana and formerly of Paris, Illinois, passed away at 3:06 p.m. Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Exceptional Living Center of Brazil in Brazil, Indiana. He had worked at MECO and Unarco and also had been a custodian at the Edgar County Court House. He was a member of Community Bible Church of Paris where he was very active, delivered Meals on Wheels, and was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War.

Born May 10, 1933 in Paris, he was the son of the late Charles and Jessie (Starkey) Acklen. He married Emmaline E. Weir August 25, 1956 and she passed away March 3, 1998. He then married Leaetta (Medaugh) Godsey March 21, 2002 and she survives. Other survivors include a daughter Beth (Jim) Cunningham of Paris, Illinois, step-children; Rita (Mark) Johnson of Brazil, Indiana, Rick (Mindy) Godsey of Brazil, Indiana, Cindy (Blaine) Keene of Jasonville, Indiana, Connie (Brian) Wyndham of Brazil, Indiana, and Ron (Donna) Godsey of Brazil, Indiana, a sister Charlene Woodyard of Hume, Illinois, one grandson J.D. Cunningham of Paris, Illinois, eleven step-grandchildren, and several step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Jayce Cunningham and two brothers, Jay Acklen and Howard Hollingsworth.

Visitation for Mr. Acklen will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 17, 2018 at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 17, 2018 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Edgar Cemetery with Military Honors by American Legion Post 211.
