She was born in New Zion, South Carolina on March 11, 1937 to the late William Edgar Baker, Sr. and the late Ava Vermelle McIntosh Baker. She was a member of the East Clarendon High School Class of 1955, and a member of the Columbia College Class of 1959. She married then-Navy Lieutenant Jon Frederick "Fred" Abel on December 28, 1963 and together shared 54 years of marriage. Margaret was a Vail Valley Community Foundation volunteer for 18 years; she enjoyed playing tennis, boating, gardening and was an amazing cook.
Surviving besides her husband are a son: Michael (Tania) Abel of Las Vegas, Nevada; a daughter: Christie Abel of Denver, Colorado; and three grandchildren: Alyssa, Ing and Emmitt Abel.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was predeceased by a brother, William Edgar "Billy" Baker, Jr, in 2012.
