Born in Suffolk, Virginia, he was the son of Fred and Lucy (Rook) Clements. He attended school in Virginia and then enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II, serving overseas in Belgium. When he returned to the United States, he was stationed at the McAlester Naval Ammunition Depot and during that time met his future wife, Thresa Santine. They were married on Aug. 19, 1946, in Sherman, Texas, and then made their home in McAlester. He worked as a baker for Massey Bakery for several years and then was a pressman for the McAlester News-Capital for 22 years. He retired in 1986 after working for 20 years as a corrosion technician for Arkla Gas Company. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, the McAlester B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge No. 533 and enjoyed the outdoors, camping and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Thresa Clements, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert H. and Sherry Clements, of Tulsa, and Joe and Linda Clements, Howe, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Nell and Bill Hamilton, of McAlester. Also, six grandchildren, Coy Clements and wife, Jamie, Whitewright, Texas, Jennifer Salamon and husband, Michael, of Tulsa, Lia Clements, Howe, Texas, Tim Bilbrey and wife, Kelli, Grand Prairie, Texas, Brian Bilbrey, Denison, Texas, and Nikki Hamilton, of Norman. And, four great-grandchildren, Joey and Gabby Salamon, and Kyleigh and Colton Clements, and a brother and sister-in-law, Frederick and Evelyn Clements, Suffolk, Va. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Frances Harvell. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. John Grubbs and the Rev. Bob Davidson officiating. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery with Father Leonard Higgins officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.
