HERMISTON — Charlotte Ora Brooks died Saturday, May 26, at Columbia Care Cottage Foster Care Home in Hermiston at the age of 87.

She was born Feb. 17, 1920 at Flora to Charles and Ora (Schmalhorst) Shuman.

Charlotte was raised in Flora and attended Arco School.

She moved to Portland and worked in the shipyards. On Jan. 27, 1949 she married Gerald Brooks at Camas, Wash.

They moved with Gerald's job with the railroad to Spokane, Roosevelt, and finally Plymouth, Wash., where they have lived since. Charlotte worked during harvest times for many farms including Pryor Farms and Hundred Circle Farms. She also worked at Lamb Weston in Hermiston. She attended Calvary Harvest Fellowship Church in Hermiston. Charlotte enjoyed crafts, fishing, and dancing.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Gerald, of Plymouth, Wash.; two sons, Charles Brooks of Springfield, Texas, and Alen Brooks of Plymouth, Wash.; two brothers, Joe Shuman of Pendleton, and Alden Shuman of Lostine; three grandchildren, Charles, Cory, and Marc Brooks; three great-grandchildren, Dylan, Brandon, and Brian Brooks.

She was preceded in death by son, Jerry Brooks in 1991; daughter, Ellen Brooks in 1964; sisters, Grace Lytle, Florence Noyes, Alta Wiggens, Viola Shafer, and Gerva Hays; and brothers, Bob and John Shuman.

A memorial graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 2, at the Hermiston Cemetery. Burial was held earlier at the Hermiston Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Harvest Fellowship Church in Hermiston.
