Obituary for Ida Almira Aaberg
Ida Almira (Neisch) Aaberg, 93, of Pelican Rapids, MN, formerly of Rothsay, died on Wednesday May 22, 2019 at Riverfront on Main in Pelican Rapids.

She was born on December 14, 1925 in Taylor Township, Traverse County, MN, the daughter of Henry and Louise (Vogel) Neisch. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in rural Traverse County.

On November 9, 1946 she married Charles O. Aaberg at her home church, St Paul’s Lutheran Church. Charles and Ida were farmers and lived on the Aaberg Farm near Rothsay from 1946 to 2004 when they moved into Rothsay. Ida spent 26 winters in Yuma, AZ, then lived for 18 months in Gering, NE with her daughter Colleen and spent the last year and a half of her life at Riverfront on Main in Pelican Rapids.

She was proud of the fact she had taken Practical Nurses training in Fergus Falls at Wright Memorial Hospital in 1945, followed by a few months working at the hospital in Wheaton before getting married in 1946. She also worked at Woolworth’s, two different Rothsay cafes and as a cook at the Rothsay School.

She was a member of New Life Lutheran Church (formerly Our Savior’s Lutheran Church) in Rothsay, where she taught Sunday School, was active in Ladies Aide for many years and took great pride in her role with the famous Rothsay Cookbook. Through the years, Ida was also involved in 4-H, serving as a club leader. Ida will be remembered for the many quilts she made for her family plus the quilts she made with her church quilting groups in Rothsay, Yuma AZ and Gering, NE.

Preceeding her in death were her parents, Henry and Louise, her husband, Charles, brother, Gerhardt Neisch, sister Esther Kassahn and granddaughter Emily Aaberg Thompson.

Survivors include her children David (Maggie), Pelican Rapids, MN, Allen (Stephanie), Fargo, ND, Dale (Linda), Victoria, MN, Joel (Diane) on board sailing vessel “Puddy Cat” at sea, Colleen (Ross Van Amburg), Gering, NE and Duane (Chris), Gillette, WY; 15 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren; brothers, Waldemar Neisch of MI and E.
