Dean was the first person and part of the first class to graduate from Northfield High School in 1963. On June 5, 1970 Dean married his best friend Carol Reust. The two were married for 49 wonderful years. Dean was a man of many talents, interests and had an entrepreneurship spirit. Over his lifetime, Dean owned a construction and carpentry company and also owned a hardware, bait and tackle shop in Michigan. Dean had a special talent when it came to building and doing carpentry work. He helped complete many people’s homes but his greatest achievement was the building of his own home. Dean worked hard to provide for his family which meant the world to him, especially his grandchildren. When he wasn’t building, tinkering or taking care of his property, he enjoyed bird watching, woodworking, watching IU Basketball and classic cars, but he enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren the most. While living in Michigan, Dean belonged to various car clubs. He also enjoyed attending St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church with his wife.
The loving memory of Dean Duane Abbott will be carried on by his wife, Carol Abbott, North Manchester; one son, Robert (Karen) Abbott, Tampa, Florida; four daughters, Sherrie (Thomas) Spann, Deanna (Brian) Niccum, Kristie (Chris) Miller, all of North Manchester and Tracy (Josh Meyers) Walters, Fort Wayne; two brothers, Carl (Rachel) Abbott, South Whitley and Randall Abbott, Urbana; one sister, Glenda (Rick) Armstrong, Fort Wayne; fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ronald Abbott who passed away on July 6, 2010.
