Jose was born to Roberto and Ofelia Acevedo and grew up in Delicias, Chihuahua. At age 16, he made the dangerous journey from his home to pursue a life in the U.S. Within two years, he had made his way to Nebraska where he met Sylvia, who would become his wife of 39 years and they eventually settled in Morgan County. Jose and Sylvia raised their six children on the 25+ acres of land they have lived on for 24 years. In the early years of owning the land, Jose and his family raised cattle and Jose took great pride in his animals and working on his property. He instilled values of hard work in his children, often working six days a week until illness forced him to rest. He was a loyal employee of the Cargill Beef Plant where he worked for 36 years and made lifelong friendships. He was a kind man, a devoted friend, and never hesitated to lend a helping hand. His mechanical skills meant he enjoyed most of his time in a red iron shop built by himself and his sons just a few steps from their home. Nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Survivors beside Sylvia included: children Jessica, Sandra, Ofelia, Jose, Roberto, and Rogelio; siblings Ofelia, Miguel, Tomas, and Malena; and 22 grandchildren. Preceding were grandmother Luz Gomez Gardea, uncle Rogelio Armando Bermudez Gallegos and granddaughter Mercedes Parker. Funeral was held June 20th at the Centro Familiar Nueva Creacion in Fort Morgan
