Age 81, died Tuesday in a Norfolk, Va. hospital. He was the son of late Ernest Lee & Kate Harrell Austin [Burrus] (she died 13 Dec 1993) and a retired Chief Boatswains Mate with the U.S. Coast Guard and also retired from the National Park Service. He was a member of the Manteo Masonic Lodge #521 AF & AM, the Dare County Shrine Club & the Jesters. He is survived by his wife, Ola Burrus Austin; son, Gregory Austin (Yvonne) of Manteo; a sister, Avis Davis (Charles) of Norfolk; a brother, Albert L. "Bert" Austin, of Grandy; 2 grandchildren: David Wayne Austin & Lisa A. Brickhouse (Jimmie); two great-grandchildren: Gregory Baum & Austin Brickhouse; and a great-great grandchild, Jonah Baum. He was predeceased by a brother, Decator Harrell "Tate" Austin, Sr. (he died 23 Apr 2000). Funeral Saturday, June 9th.
