Helen was born to John M. and Iola J. Pullen. She attended elementary school in Lakeside, NE and graduated from high school in Benkleman, NE. After graduating she moved to Denver, CO to attend secretarial school. To pay for her schooling and room and board she lived with an Italian family working as household help.
Her schooling was cut short when her fiancé James G Acker returned from World War II badly injured in a plane crash. They were married in August 1945. To this union 4 children were born: Karen, Bob, Barb and Jim. In 1961 she was remarried to Clarence P Mercure (Red). To this union one child was born: Brenda Jo. Helen and Red were thrilled to be blessed with Brenda and were wonderful parents to all 5 of us.
Helen devoted her life to her family. She loved to read, cook and do crafts. She cherished her time with her sisters: Mary Lou, Joan and Joy. She was so grateful to all who helped getting the sisters together especially in these last years.
