He was a lifetime resident of Northfield. He earned a master's degree magna cum laude in science education from Plymouth State College, which he entered at the age of 49.

Abbott served as a private first class with the 214th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion Medical Detachment in the European-African Theater and the Middle Eastern Theater of Operation during World War II.

He worked at the former Howell Printing in Tilton and at Bridge & Bryon Printing in Concord. He later taught at Fall Mountain Regional High School in Charlestown for 10 years, retiring in the late 1980s.

He was a member of the Northfield Historical Society, Loon Preservation Society and the Audobon Society. He was active in the Hall Memorial Library and participated in the official loon count for many years.

Survivors include a son and two daughters; two brothers and a sister. His wife, Julia Rose (Treantos) Abbott, died in 1990.

Burial will be held in the spring in St. John Cemetery in Tilton.
