At the 21st Mar del Plata International Film Festival, a retrospective showing some of his filmography was held, showing his most famous films. In 2008 he was appointed president of the Mar del Plata International Film Festival. Several professional film directors like Lucrecia Martel, Juan José Campanella, Gustavo Taretto, and more, were his students. He died from complications derived from pneumonia on August 17, 2019 in Buenos Aires.
