ABBOTT

The family of Ruth Dot Abbott wishes to express love and gratitude for the many years that the Lord blessed us with her presence. Ruth touched many lives with her constant love, encouragement, inspiration, and her enthusiasm for life. She treated everyone with gentleness and cordiality. Ruth was born in Archer County, Texas on September 28, 1902 and moved to Oklahoma City at a very early age. She graduated from Central High School, attended Edmond Normal School where she received a teaching life certificate, and, later a BA from Oklahoma City University. Ruth was employed by the Oklahoma Public Schools for 43 years, teaching 30 years at Wheeler School before becoming a traveling art teacher. She gave regular art lessons in elementary art on Channel 13 in art appreciation, arts and crafts, as well as lessons in creative crafts on Channel 4.

J.B. Abbott, her beloved husband for 53 years, and Ruth Dot were married in Pauls Valley in 1938. They moved to The Spanish Cove in Yukon in January of 1980. They traveled extensively until his death in 1990. Ruth was an avid reader, flower gardener, and lover of classical piano music. Her greatest joy was being with friends and family. She was a member of Kappa Pi Art Fraternity of Oklahoma City University, the Beta Nu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, the MacDowel club of Allied Arts, Oklahoma City Art Teachers Associations, Oklahoma Retired Educators, Oklahoma County Educators Associations and the Centenarian Club of Oklahoma. She was an active member of the Chisholm Trail Presbyterian Church and a member of the Spanish Cove Bible Study Group since its beginning.

Ruth is survived by her brother, Chester Frank Dunlap of Edmond, Jane Abbott, a sister-in-law of Oklahoma City, Sibyl Jamieson, a sister-in-law of Bartlesville, and 14 nieces and nephews. Her husband J.B. and three brothers Hugh, Mead, Fred Dunlap, and sister, Clara Elizabeth Cheves preceded Ruth in death. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Chisholm Trail Presbyterian Church, 801 W. Vandament, Yukon, OK 73099 or the charity of your choice. Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 11, 2003 at Chisholm Trail Presbyterian Church in Yukon with interment to follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. Edition: CITY
