Robert Austin Roberts, 92, of Schuyler, died Saturday, March 02, 2013 at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

He was born on August 19, 1920, a son of the late George Henry and Cora (Quick) Roberts.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters; and a grandson, James A. Roberts, Jr.

Mr. Roberts retired from the U.S. Postal Service after over forty years as a Rural Mail Carrier. He was a World War II Veteran, having served his country in the Army Air Corps. He was a lifetime member of the Schuyler Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon. He was a member of the Rockfish Masonic Lodge #108 for over sixty years. He had also worked for over fifteen years as a Part-time Funeral Assistant at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home in Scottsville.

Robert is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Leona (Brooks) Roberts of Schuyler; two sons, James Austin Roberts and wife, Jane of Crozet and Richard Lee Roberts and wife, Brenda of Schuyler; four grandchildren, Stephen Roberts and wife, Mindy and Ashley Roberts all of Lake Monticello and Jennifer Roberts and fiancé, Joseph Harris and Richard Roberts, Jr. and wife, Rochelle all of Schuyler; a great-grandson, Austin Harris; and a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family, and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at the Schuyler Baptist Church with the Reverend James C. Jetton officiating. Interment will follow in Monticello Memory Gardens in Charlottesville.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, Monday, March 4, 2013 at Thacker Brothers Scottsville Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Schuyler Baptist Church, c/o Ronald Dorrier, 612 Hummingbird Road, Scottsville, Virginia 24590.
