Esther C. Jonasson, 104, of Mountain, ND passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier, ND.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the Vikur Lutheran Church, Mountain, ND. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 13th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Burial will be held in the Mountain Cemetery. Memorial are preferred to the Vikur Society or the Mountain Cemetery.
Esther was born on October 8, 1914 in Nome, ND. She was the daughter of Clara (Harland) and Gehard Baarstad. Esther received her education in rural schools near Nome, ND and attended high school in Minneapolis, MN. She taught piano and elementary music in Mountain, Gardar, Hoople, Crystal, and Dundee, ND schools and many private piano students from area communities.
Esther was the primary organist for forty-two plus years at the Mountain, ND parish. She continued to play many years as the substitute organist well into her late 90’s.
On March 16, 1940, she married William T. Olgeirson. He passed away on January 16, 1974. She then married Palmer Jonasson on January 5, 1979. He passed away on November 11, 2006.
Esther was a member of the Borg Memorial Auxiliary, Vikur LCW, and Pembina Hills Lutheran Church.
Esther is preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, five brothers, and one sister.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret (Tom) Lorenzen, two granddaughters, Tonia (Derryl) Richter and Trudy (Darrin) Goode; great-grandchildren, Abigail Richter, Ethan Goode, Eric Goode, and Kamryn Richter; sister-in-law, Eloise Baarstad; special nephew, (who was like a son) Roger (Phyllis) Aarseth and family and many nieces and nephews.
