Benjamin Adams was the youngest of five sons mentioned on the 1722 will of his father Thomas Adams of Prince George County, VA. His older brother or half brother William Adams was granted a bequest of their father's land conditional on "he assisting his Mother in taking the rest for her use, and my Son Benja. use, so long as my Son Benja. stays with his Mother". The bequest to Ben
"7thly. I give and bequeath unto my Son Benja. Adams, the Bed and furniture which he now Lyes on, and two Cows and Calves, a small Gun, Pistols, Holsters Carbine & Sword, six dishes, & six plates and six spoons, one midling Iron pott, one new frock a tucken vest and breeches, two pair of worsted stockings & fifty Shillings Cash."
is further evidence of the special place in his heart for his youngest son
There is uncertainty just how young Ben was in 1722 and his year of birth has been estimated both in the first and second decades of the century. There has been confusion between this Ben (Sr), his son Benjamin Jr and his nephew (David's son) Benjamin resulting in 18 or more children being assigned to him by some group sheets and compilations but children's confirmation records agreement with his will and other evidence clearly establish which Benjamin Adams was Thomas & Elizabeth's son and his family composition.
The christening of Ben & Agnes' daughter Anne on 9/9/1740 establishes that he was married & had at least one child by that date. Estimates place Ben's birth as during the first or second decade of the century but there is no known evidence to be absolutely certain of his precise year of birth.
