Nancy Katherine Farmer was born 15 April 1853, the daughter of Charles C. & Lucy Mildred 'Menefee' Farmer, in Henry County, Iowa. She was the seventh of eight children.
Nancy married Rufus Abel on 3 Sep 1874 in Iowa. His occupation was farming. They had 6 children:

Rufus and Nancy moved their family to Knox, Benson County, North Dakota by 1900, where they were farmers. By 1910 they owned their home in York township, Albert, North Dakota and Rufus worked as the school janitor where he was working in 1920. Nancy's mother, Lucy Mildred Menefee Farmer, was living with them.
Nancy died 31 Dec. 1929 in Hettinger County, North Dakota and was buried in New England Cemetery, New England, Hettinger County, North Dakota.
