Funeral services for J.E. Ackerman, Upton banker and former Hulett and Sundance resident, were held Friday in St. John's Episcopal Church, Upton, Wyoming.

Ackerman, 61, died March 17 at Parkview Baptist Hospital in Yuma, Arizona.

The 2pm services were conducted by the Rev. Patterson Keller. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Upton under the direction of Roberts Mortuary, Sundance.

Ackerman, the son of Vaughn B and Villa M Ackerman, was born near Hulett on July 21, 1907. He graduated from Hulett high school and then taught school for one year.

After attending business college in Chillicothe, MO, he became associated with banks in Hulett and Sundance. In 1946 he left Sundance to operate Union State Bank in Upton. He was president of the bank at the time of his death.

Ackerman had previously served for 8 years as a member of the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission. He was also interested in Junior Legion baseball, coached the team in Sundance for several years and actively supported teams in Upton.

He was a member and Past Master of Sundance Lodge No. 9, A.F.&A.M.

He was married to Alice Reynolds at Lead, SD on September 18, 1937.

He is survived by his wife, Alice, Upton; 2 sons, John, Casper and Bill, a student at Ohio State; one granddaughter, Leslie, Casper; his mother, Villa Ackerman, Belle Fourche; 1 brother, Dick Hulett; and a niece and nephew.

The J.E. Ackerman Memorial Fund c/o Union State Bank, has been established with contributions to go to research groups in various areas of medicine.
