Leland H. (Lee) Abarr, 85, died October 27, 2004 of heart failure in Scottsdale, Arizona. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, November 1 at Westover Funeral Home, with Reverend Tom Burkhardt officiating. Burial, with Military Honors, will be at McDivitt Grove Cemetery in Urbandale.

Lee was born May 10, 1919 in Clearfield, Iowa. He was a graduate of Drake University and served as a captain in the US Army during World War II. He retired as a Charter Life Underwriter for Equitable of the United States.

Lee served on the Urbandale City Council, Urbandale Planning and Zoning Commission and the Metropolitan Sewer Policy Committee. He was named Citizen of the Year in Urbandale in 1984. Lee was also a member of Covenant Christian Church, Urbandale Lions Club and the Urbandale American Legion.

He is survived by his daughter, Janice (Gary) Walsh of London, England, and Lynette Abarr of Scottsdale, Arizona; sisters, Helen Posten of Austin, Texas, and Anne (Warren) Bennett of Grants, New Mexico; granddaughter, Tiffany Hagaman of Scottsdale, Arizona; and niece, Jane Posten of Austin, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Abarr.

Visitation is from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, October 31 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Christian Church, Iowa Lutheran Hospital or Urbandale Lions Club.
