George Dennis Schaub was born in Ohio on May 22, 1871. Was killed at the Lanyan Zinc smelter on December 21, 1899. Age 28 years, 6 months and 29 days.

Mrs. Schaub came to LaHarpe from Missouri last July and had worked in the smelter from July 19 to the time of his death. he was a sober, industrious man and a kind and loving husband and father. He joined the Methodist church at Curtis, Nebraska, six years ago, and so far as we can learn, he has lived a true christian life and was respected by those who worked side by side with him daily.

He never knew a mother's love and tender care, having lost his mother when quite young, but has a father, four sisters and two brothers who, with his young wife and three little girls, mourn his untimely death.

The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Leeper at the M. E. Church on December 22, and as his body was carried out of the church, Mr. Matthews was carried in making almost a double funeral. He was laid to rest in the LaHarpe Cemetery.
