John “Jay” Abasolo, 67 of Wellington, Kansas passed away at 11:55 p.m., Sunday, February 9th, 2020 peacefully at home with his daughter in McPherson, Kansas.

Jay was born in North Platte, Nebraska on March 27, 1952, a son of Jesus Jay and Mary Ruth (Rodriguez) Abasolo.

Jay attended Madison Elementary School, Wellington Junior High and graduated from Wellington High School, in Wellington, Kansas in 1971.

He attended St. Anthony Catholic Church in Wellington, Kansas.

He served in the Kansas Air National Guard.

Throughout his years, Jay worked for the State of Kansas as a laborer, as an assembler for Mayflower Travel Trailer, and at Santa Fe Railroad as a switchman in Wellington, Kansas.

Jay enjoyed watching football, especially the Denver Broncos. He loved golf, and always looked forward to the Duffers and Derelicts Golf Tournament each year. He loved his animals, watching Western films, spending time with his friends and family, and especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, DeAnna Abasolo, of McPherson, Kansas, her children, Mary, Kirsten, Drake, and Nicholas Farley. Jason Abasolo and his wife Crystal, of Valley Center, Kansas, their children, Kailee and Helena Abasolo, Tori Abasolo, of Oxford, Kansas, her children, Hunter and Derek Reynolds, and Bradi Osborn, and three great-grandchildren, Salem, Lennox, and Everleigh. His siblings, Cecelia (Abasolo) Newman and the late Bill Newman, of Wellington, Kansas, Catherine Richardson and her husband Curt, of Mulvane, Kansas, Georgiana Abasolo, of Ark City, Kansas, Carmen Harshfield, of Wellington, Kansas, Eloysa Bennett and her husband Wes, of Wellington, Kansas, Connie Sayler and the late Don Sayler of Tucson, Arizona, Greg Abasolo, of Wellington, Kansas, Amelia Austin and her husband John, of Rosehill, Kansas, and Andy Abasolo and his wife Sheila, of Wichita, Kansas, his ex-wife Catherine Cronn, of Northglenn, Colorado, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Ruth Abasolo, nephews, Matthew Thompson, and Adam Bennett, niece, Juanita Sayler, and two brother-in-laws, Bill Newman and Donald Sayler.

Services will be held at a later date.
