He was born Jan. 12, 1929 to Henry and Ella Abbas, and he was raised on a farm near Britton, S.D.
In 1947, he joined the U.S. Air Force; upon his discharge he moved to Siletz to be near his parents. On May 20, 1950, he married Geraldine "Geri" Bilyeu.
During his lifetime, he worked many jobs, including logger, mill worker, dairy farmer and construction worker. He then started a career as a heavy equipment operator and millwright at the Georgia-Pacific Pulp and Paper Mill in Toledo. He retired in 1991.
He was a member of the Toledo Eagles No. 2219 and the Toledo BPOE No. 1664, where he served as an exalted ruler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ela Abbas; brothers, Leon Abbas and Lyle Abbas; and sister, Beth Nelson
He is survived by his wife, Geri Abbas of Toledo; sons, John Abbas of Toledo, Dennis (Cecilia) Abbas of Toledo and Clifford Abbas of Toledo; daughter, Debby (Chet) Lee of Vernonia; six granddaughters and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at BPO Elks Lodge No. 1664, 123 SE Alder St. in Toledo, followed by a reception.
