Darren Moises Benavidez, age 23, a lifelong resident of Las Vegas, N.M., passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, due to injuries sustained in a automobile accident.

Darren was born on May 9, 1984, in Las Vegas, N.M., to Moises Benavidez and Leden Abeyta Benavidez. He was presently employed as Assistant Dietician at the N.M. Behavioral Health Institute. He was a 2003 graduate of West Las Vegas High School. Darren loved playing baseball, softball and playing with his son and his hanging out with his bros. He played sports for the West Las Vegas Dons and was the 2002 Homecoming King and in 1996 he was an all-star for La Plaza. He was preceded in death by his brother: Jeffrey Abeyta; grandfather: Beltran Abeyta; grandparents: Juan de la Cruz and Juanita Benavidez; great-grandparents: Samuel Brooks and Manuelita Brooks; aunt: Marilyn Velasquez and uncle: Sam Abeyta. He is survived by his fianc: Antoinette Jaramillo and son: Estevan Herman Benavidez both of Bernal, N.M.; parents: Moises and Leden Benavidez of Las Vegas, N.M.; brothers and sisters: Dale Benavidez and wife Adrienne of Las Vegas, N.M. and Brian Benavidez of Albuquerque, Charlene Flores and husband Anthony Herrera of Las Vegas, N.M., Lori Ann Benavidez, Mark Moises Benavidez and David Cruz Benavidez all of Albuquerque; grandmother: Rosie and Joe Gandert of Ledoux, N.M.; numerous: nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Rosary devotional services will be conducted this evening at 7 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church with Father George V. Salazar as celebrant.

Interment will follow at the Abeyta Family Cemetery in Ledoux, with the following serving as casket bearers: Alvin Abeyta, Moises Benavidez, David Marquez, Fabian Montoya, Anthony Herrera, Louie Benavidez, Jr., Marco Aragon, and Dale Benavidez. Serving as honorary bearers: Brian Benavidez, Mark Benavidez, David Benavidez, Brandon Gonzales, Elias Baca, James Benavidez, Desiree Fernandez, Glen Velasquez, Estevan Benavidez, Sophia Benavidez, Adrienne Gallegos, Mark Benavidez, Jr., Marissa Herrera, Mariah Herrera, Ramon Benavidez, Louie Benavidez Sr., Joseph Chavez, Paul Benavidez, Lawrence Chavez, Ivan Abeyta, Antonio Larraaga, Leroy Tafoya, Rudy Tafoya, David Ulibarri, Casey Duran and Edward Roybal.
