During the war while T.A. was gone, she took flying lessons and learned to fly an airplane.

Virginia and T.A. traveled extensively, including trips to Europe, Asia, and several trips to Australia, where T.A. was stationed in WWII. Other travels included frequent trips to NC for recitals, performances, and other occasions for the grandchildren.
