Hardin---Jennie Ella Abbott homesteaded in the Pryor Mountains and ranched on the Dryhead ranch before retiring to Bridger when her husband, Tuffy, died on 2-25-1987. Jennie entered the Heritage Acres Retirement Home in Hardin on 96-15-1987 and was a resident since that time. Jennie died 4-06-1992 following an extended illness at the age of 91. She was born 10-04-1900 in Fairfax SD, a daughter of Clara Broman and William Sproul. The family moved to Kane WY in 1916. Jennie married "Tuffy" Charles E Abbott on 3-10-1926 in Basin WY. The couple had two children, A C "Pistol" Abbott of Ranchester WY and Jean L Slane of Casper WY., one sister, Ava Mullinax of Conrad; a sister-in-law, Edna Abbott of Lovell WY, 0 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Jennie was one of the last pioneers of the Big Horn Basin. She raised her family in an isolated area 80 miles SW of Billings and 70 miles N of Lovell WY. She canned all her garden fruits and vegetables while working on a wood-burning stove in a cavbn without electricity or running water. Jennie Abbott was dearly loved by those who knew her. She is a tribute to the hard-working American ranch woman.
