Ethel Mae Abel, 95, of Baker, Oklahoma passed away October 19, 2020 at Homestead Estates Plus in Liberal, Kansas.

Ethel was born June 3, 1925 the daughter of Leland and Bernice (Harter) Scott, on the family farmstead south of Baker, OK.

She married Ralph Stephen Abel Feb. 11, 1940 at Forgan, OK.

She attended Eureka High School finishing her freshman year. She attended Liberal School of Cosmetology graduating May,1964 and was Licensed in the State of Kansas. She worked for a short time at El-Kan Beauty Salon. Ethel was a homemaker and helped her husband Ralph on the family farm. She continued to help on the farm after his death helping her son Galen until her health kept her from doing so.

She was a member of the Baker United Methodist Church and attended Trinity Faith in Liberal for many years. She was a song leader, Sunday school teacher, and helped with Vacation Bible School at the Methodist Church in Baker.

She enjoyed crocheting, reading, painting, puzzles, cooking and gardening.

Survivors include sons, John Abel and wife Kaye, Highlands Ranch, CO; Galen Abel and wife Maria, Baker; daughters, Linda Duvall and husband Denny, Tyrone; and Janel Dale and husband Bill, Atascocita, TX. Grandchildren: Tricia Abel Martin (Corey), Long Tree, CO; Jodie Abel Lewallen, Highlands Ranch, CO; Chris and Vicki Abel, Shiocton, WI; Tammy Abel, Hot Springs, AR; Suzette Abel Maris (Jeff), Volvo, IL; Janette Abel, Round Lake, IL; Tisha Duvall Loomis (Tim), Baker; Tasha Duvall Herrera (Adrian), Goodwell; Krystal Dale, Dallas, TX; Michael and Zoe Dale, Atascocita, TX. Jason and Brandi Abel, Spring Hill, KS; Nathan and Christina Abel, Liberal, KS; 18 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Surviving siblings: Robert Scott, Monkey Island, OK; L.J. Scott, Hooker; Thelma Jean Lambert, Kismet.

Preceding her in death are husband Ralph, parents Leland and Bernice Scott, sons Kenneth Ray Abel and Cary Abel, granddaughter Sharree Abel, brother Walter Scott and sisters Roberta Headrick, Thelda Dean Baker and Nancy Mendenhall.

Graveside services will be on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the Liberal City Cemetery in Liberal, Kansas with Pastor Reece Player officiating.
