Fayette County - MARVIN LEE ABEL, 81, long time resident of the Braden Community, retired employee of the TN State Hwy. Department and World War II Army veteran, died September 30, 2007. MARVIN LEE ABEL, longtime resident of the Braden Community in Fayette County, retired Hwy. Department employee and United States Veteran died at 9:30 A.M. Sunday, September 30, 2007 at the St. Francis Hospital in Memphis where he had been a patient for 4 days. He was 81 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Funeral services for Mr. Abel were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, October 3rd at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Mike Crouch, Associate Pastor of Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed in the Walls Cemetery at Braden. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home—West Chapel.

Mr. Abel was a native of the Braden Community, born July 9, 1926, the son of the late Lee Abel and the late Ruby Crisp Abel. He was educated in the Fayette County Public School system and was a graduate of the Fayette County High School in Somerville. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and served during the World War II Period. Mr. Abel was employed for over 30 by the Tennessee State Highway Department at Arlington before his retirement nineteen years ago.

He was a Christian and a lifelong resident of Fayette County. He will be remembered as an avid hunter who enjoyed deer, raccoon and squirrel hunting and raising hunting dogs. He enjoyed caring for his Beagles and other pets.

Mr. Abel is survived by his sister, Kaye Copeland of Martin, TN; his brother, John Abel of Reagan, TN; two nieces, Deanna Showli of Memphis and Kelly Copeland of Martin, TN and 3 nephews, Johnny Abel of Atoka, Vince Littrell of Knoxville, TN and Krieg Littrell of Louisville, KY.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were John Arthur Abel, Johnny Abel, Scott Easley, Danny Prosser, Adam Showli and Isam Showli.

The family request that Memorials be directed to the Walls Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 111, Gallaway, TN 38036 (826-9321).
